Our members gathered together on December 14 for the last event of 2024. Our guest speaker Mr. Robert Emond led us to discuss Hillbilly Elegy by J.D. Vance with a focus on Appalachia’s culture and themes. The event began with Robert’s insightful background on the region, complemented by a discussion of Copperhead Road by Steve Earle.
We then broke into smaller groups to explore 15 chapter-based questions in various interactive formats, sparking meaningful conversations about the book’s themes of family, resilience, and socio-economic struggles. The combination of cultural context, music, and group discussions made for an engaging and thought-provoking event.
